Skills Development and Training

The needs of working life and skill requirements are constantly changing. In such a changing environment, it is important to learn new things and develop your skills. By strengthening, expanding or updating your skills, you improve your chances of finding employment. Sometimes, your career may also reach a point where it is necessary to consider a completely new direction or even a career change.
Do you want to develop your skills and strengthen your employment prospects? You can enhance your professional competence in many ways: by learning something new, deepening your existing skills, or updating them. We will help you find the best way for you to develop and strengthen your skills.
How can I develop my skills?
Working life is constantly changing, and so are skill requirements. By developing your skills, you can improve your chances of finding employment.
There are several options available for developing your skills. We provide training in cooperation with educational institutions, companies and other partners.
In addition, we offer vocational choice and career guidance for those who are looking for a suitable field or considering the next direction in their career.
Labour market training
Labour market training strengthens your vocational skills. If you are unemployed or at risk of unemployment, you may be eligible to participate in labour market training.
Labour market training is mainly vocational training, such as education leading to a basic or vocational qualification or further vocational training. Labour market training is free of charge, and during it you will receive the same benefit as when unemployed, and possibly also an expense allowance.

Vocational guidance and career planning
Do you need clarity in your career plans or support in taking the next step in your work or education path? Public employment services have launched a new career guidance service that offers personalised support for various career-related questions. In career guidance, you will receive individual support in planning your education and career. A career guidance counsellor will help you identify your skills, goals and opportunities. Together, you will plan suitable paths forward in work and education based on your situation. Career guidance meetings are held at service points in the South Satakunta employment area.
Career guidance is suitable for you if you need support in clarifying your career direction, want to identify and articulate your skills, or are considering different education or career options. Participation in career guidance requires that you have sufficient resources and motivation to commit to the guidance process.
For job seekers, the customer advisor will add the client to the career guidance waiting list. If you are interested in career guidance but are not registered as a job seeker, you can contact us by email at uraohjaus@rauma.fi.
Independent studies
A job seeker has the opportunity to pursue full-time studies while receiving unemployment benefits. If you cannot find a suitable option among our labour market training programmes, you can apply independently to an educational programme and apply for support for your studies through independent studies.
Support may be granted provided that you are at least 25 years old, the planned studies significantly improve your employment prospects, and the support is agreed with you in your employment plan. Independent studies are a discretionary service and must be applied for before the studies begin.
If you are planning studies, always contact your customer advisor first.

Under certain conditions, you may receive unemployment benefits during your studies if you are at least 25 years old and the duration of the studies is no more than six months.
Such studies may include, for example, individual courses, studies at an open university, or short further training programmes. During your studies, you are required to apply for jobs in accordance with your employment plan and be prepared to accept full-time work.
