Rauma is a vibrant coastal city with a population of about 40,000 and home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. International and entrepreneur-friendly, Rauma boasts a diverse economic structure, effective educational partnerships, and excellent services. The Rauma region’s economy is industry-focused, with key sectors including the forest industry, marine technology, the metal industry, and the food industry. Rauma offers opportunities for success through land-use planning and infrastructure solutions that support business, as well as through educational and institutional partnerships with companies.
The developing Port of Rauma offers a competitive operating environment for international trade by sea, making Rauma an attractive location for port-related businesses. Luoto Energia Oy is planning to locate a Power-to-Gas (e-NG) production plant in the approximately 65-hectare expansion area of Iso Järviluoto in the Port of Rauma. On the Port of Rauma side, planning for Norsk e-fuel’s electric aviation fuel (e-SAF) production plant project is already well underway. Zoning for the approximately 300-hectare Lakari business area will be completed during 2026. The area has been reserved for Fortum Oyj, which is planning a data center there. With these areas, Rauma has excellent opportunities to also develop into a hub for clean transition companies.
The maritime industry and maritime logistics have a long tradition in the Rauma region. The maritime cluster remains one of the region’s most significant employers. The Seaside Industry Park, a hub for the maritime industry, offers companies an efficient operating environment. The industrial park is home to successful leading companies in shipbuilding and the maritime industry with extensive networks, such as Rauma Marine Constructions Oy, which manufactures multi-purpose corvettes for the Finnish Defense Forces and icebreakers for the U.S. Coast Guard.
Rauma is an attractive investment destination for sustainable industry and businesses in the bioeconomy and circular economy. As a pioneer in climate change mitigation, Rauma aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2030.

The Port of Rauma
The Port of Rauma is Finland’s fourth-largest general-purpose port for international traffic. Modes of transport include containers, Ro-Ro, Lo-Lo, dry and liquid bulk cargo, and project cargo. It offers seamless rail and road connections to various parts of Finland. The port is a bustling gateway to the world, with over 20 ships departing from Rauma to destinations worldwide each week. The ships mainly head to major European ports, as well as to the United States and the Far East.
The hub of maritime cluster Seaside Industry Park
Seaside Industry Park offers companies an efficient operating environment. Established in 2014, the park is home to leading shipbuilding and maritime industry companies with extensive networks. The park features shared infrastructure with comprehensive energy, water, and gas networks, as well as equipment specifically designed to meet the needs of the heavy metal industry. The area’s other services and excellent telecommunications connections also create outstanding business opportunities for companies in other sectors.
Rauma Marine Constructions, based at Seaside Industry Park, has built two passenger-car ferries for the Australian company TT-Line, one of which was delivered in the summer of 2026. Production of all four of the three multi-purpose corvettes for the Finnish Defense Forces’ Squadron 2020 project is underway in 2026.
Rauma Marine Constructions Oy and the U.S. Coast Guard have signed a contract for the construction of two medium-sized icebreakers at the Rauma shipyard. Construction of the vessels began in early 2026 in Rauma, and they are expected to be completed in 2028.

Metsä Group is planning a biogenic—that is, wood-based—carbon dioxide capture plant to be built in connection with its Rauma pulp mill. The captured carbon dioxide would replace fossil-based raw materials in products such as those used in the chemical industry. An investment decision will be made no earlier than 2027.

Energia
Rauma is located within the area of Finland’s most robust power grid. Fingrid Oyj’s Rauma substation (400 kV) is one of the most critical substations in Finland’s power system in terms of system security. In addition, the substation ensures the reliability of the electricity supply in Rauma and Satakunta area.
The Rauma substation is also important for the operation of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant. The power plant is located approximately 20 km from Rauma in Eurajoki. Fingrid, Finland’s transmission system operator, renovated the Rauma substation in 2024–25. The renovation also enables the connection of a new submarine cable between Sweden and Finland.
Gasgrid is planning a new national hydrogen transmission network that will create significant opportunities and boost competitiveness for municipalities, businesses, and Finland as a whole. The planned hydrogen pipeline will run through Satakunta in a north-south direction as part of a broader 1,500-kilometer national network. A hydrogen pipeline to Rauma from the east, near Eura. The goal is for the hydrogen infrastructure to be operational in the 2030s, with construction potentially beginning as early as 2027. The objectives include the transmission of green hydrogen, the utilization of industrial by-products, and the establishment of a hydrogen refueling network.
Gasgrid has announced that it is also exploring the possibility of expanding the existing natural gas network to Satakunta. The company is interested in connecting the e-methane plants planned for Pori and Rauma, as well as the Tahkoluoto LNG terminal, to the network. According to Gasgrid’s assessment, constructing the pipeline is technically feasible within five to ten years if there is sufficient demand. A technical feasibility study on the methane pipeline connection for the Pori and Rauma region was initiated in 2026.
Logistical connections
Rauma has excellent logistics connections and serves as a major port for exports and imports, as well as an industrial hub. The port, roads, railways, and service providers form a comprehensive network.
