The City of Rauma is participating in a project coordinated by Ukipolis Oy to assess mobile network coverage in Rauma’s rural areas and identify areas with poor or no coverage. Mobile network performance measurements will also be carried out across the Vakka-Suomi region. The project aims to provide impartial information on the actual performance of mobile networks and identify ways to improve mobile connectivity.

Reliable mobile connections are essential for rural residents, holiday home owners and businesses. They enable remote working, business operations, the use of digital services and communication in areas where fixed-line broadband connections are not widely available. In particular, shortcomings in mobile network performance have been identified outside urban centres, and the extent of these issues will be investigated as part of the project.

As part of the project, a survey on mobile network performance will be conducted among residents of Rauma’s rural areas, alongside mobile network measurements. The results will be reported to municipalities, network operators and Traficom to support the development of telecommunications infrastructure and improve connectivity in the region.

Project period: 1 April 2026 – 31 December 2027

Project area: Laitila, Pyhäranta, Uusikaupunki, Vehmaa and the rural areas of Rauma

Funding: Leader Ravakka, with the participating municipalities providing their respective municipal contributions.
