Recognition for Pioneering Work in Sustainable Tourism

Rauma has participated as a destination in Visit Finland’s Sustainable Travel Finland program for responsible tourism for the past five years. The Raumanlinna and Kalliohovi Hotels in Rauma have been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label as a symbol of their commitment to promoting sustainable tourism.
– Obtaining the Sustainable Travel Finland label for Hotel Raumanlinna and Hotel Kalliohovi was a learning experience, even though we were already familiar with sustainability measures through the hotels’ Green Key environmental certification, summarizes shift manager Emmi Pertola.
New STF certifications were already anticipated in Rauma, as Rauma’s tourism and business services have organized training sessions and networking events on the topic for tourism operators to promote the sustainability program.
Promoting Sustainable Tourism Together
Customers’ environmental awareness has grown dramatically in recent years, prompting destinations to take steps to ensure that the tourism environment remains attractive. In a destination like Rauma, rich in natural values and sociocultural heritage, operating in accordance with the principles of sustainable tourism is the starting point for development work.
The STF label, a symbol of leadership in responsible tourism, provides tourism businesses a way to stand out and grow profitable operations: “The STF program is a significant tool in our hotels’ operations and guides us in concrete ways toward developing more responsible tourism. We are committed to optimizing our water and energy use. The STF label is respected and recognized both domestically and internationally. This is an important step for us, for tourism in Rauma, and for our partners,” says Anne Ignatius-Helander, CEO of Hovi Hotels, summarizing the significance of the recognition for Rauma and the company.
