The Scandic Rauma Hotel renewed the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label — awarded to pioneers in sustainable tourism — in the end of 2025. According to Hotel Manager Mari Mäkisalo, it is worth staying involved in the program, as customers are more aware than ever and international travelers expect responsible practices. Scandic Rauma actively communicates its actions to benefit the environment and the local community.

Mäkisalo notes that the STF program increases the workload, particularly regarding reporting and verifying actions, but the chain provides strong support to individual hotels in this regard. Recently, Scandic Rauma has focused on improving waste sorting and recycling, as well as streamlining inventory management. Staff have been trained, and instructions for recycling bins have been clarified.

The training has improved staff competence and helped them examine how working hours are spent on waste handling as well as resources tied up in inventory. This strengthens the business’s cost-efficiency, resource wisdom, and profitability. Scandic is committed to long-term development of sustainability, as it is a clear path to promoting sustainable growth — which today means being a pioneer of positive change. The example of Hotel Scandic Rauma shows that sustainable tourism is worth developing over the long term and in collaboration with partners.
